Is it a Good Idea to Have a TV Bed?
Four simple reasons why a TV Bed might be perfect for your bedroom.
Introduction
A couple of years ago, I was at a home show displaying one of our TV Lift Beds and the responses from the people walking past were very interesting. I found that a TV Bed is a surprisingly polarizing product. Most of the people who walked by chuckled and said something to the effect of, “No way! That is so cool.”, then grabbed a flier and walked to the next booth. However, there was a smaller contingency of people who looked totally disgusted at the idea of a TV in the bedroom. At the time, I couldn’t understand why people were so strongly opinionated, but after talking to customers daily for many years, it makes sense.
For some, a TV in their bedroom is an invasion of a peaceful oasis. They see a TV as an intrusion on their ability to connect with their significant other and, therefore, feel like having a TV in a bedroom is morally wrong. For many others, a TV in their bedroom is a creature comfort that elevates the enjoyment they get out of their safe space.
Because I was caught off-guard by the jeers of those anti-TV-in-the-bedroom folks, it caused me to ask myself, “Is it a good idea to have a TV Bed?” Ultimately, the decision on whether or not a TV bed is a good idea will vary person-to-person, but there are some compelling, practical, reasons why a TV bed is a good idea. For example, they can declutter your room, they can allow you to have a TV in your room without it being a focal point, they can help you preserve a good view, and they can help you connect with your significant other.
1. It Can Declutter Your Room
One of the main benefits of a TV bed is that it can help you declutter your room. With it, you don’t need a separate TV stand or entertainment center, which can take up valuable floor space and create visual clutter. Instead, the TV is neatly integrated into the bed itself, so you can free up that space for other things.
This can be especially useful in smaller bedrooms where space is at a premium. With a TV bed, you can create a more streamlined and efficient layout, without sacrificing the convenience of having a TV in your room.
2. Have a TV in Your Room Without Being TV-Centric
Remember the home show I was mentioning earlier? Well, another trend became apparent at that home show that has been backed up many times over the years. The trend is that many times one spouse is pro-tv-in-the-bedroom while the other is anti-tv-in-the-bedroom. So, how can these two opposing spouses come to a good compromise? Simple, a TV bed or TV lift cabinet. That’s the beauty of it–you can have a TV when you want it and then hide it when you don’t. This way, you can both have a TV in your bedroom and not have a TV in your bedroom.
This is another benefit: it can help you create a functional bedroom that has the option of watching TV without being TV-centric. What do we mean by that? Well, with a traditional TV setup, the TV tends to dominate the room. It’s the focal point, and everything else in the room is arranged around it.
With a TV bed, on the other hand, the TV is more of an optional feature. When you want to watch TV, you can raise the screen and enjoy your favorite shows or movies from the comfort of your bed. But when you’re not watching TV, the screen can be lowered and out of sight, so you can focus on other activities like reading, relaxing, or sleeping.
This can help create a more balanced and harmonious bedroom environment, where the TV is just one of many options for entertainment, rather than the main attraction. I guess you really can have your cake and eat it too!
3. It Can Help You Preserve a Good View
Third, another benefit of having a TV bed is that it can help you preserve a good view. If you have a beautiful window view in your bedroom, but you also want to watch TV, you may be faced with a dilemma: do you sacrifice the view for the TV, or vice versa?
With a TV bed, you don’t have to make that choice. Since the TV is built into the foot of the bed, it won’t block your window view or interfere with the natural light in your room. This means you can enjoy the best of both worlds: a comfortable and functional bedroom with a great view.
4. It Can Help You Connect With Your Significant Other
One often-overlooked benefit of a TV bed is that it can help you connect with your significant other. If you share your bed with someone else, you know how easy it can be to get into the habit of always leaving the TV on, even if neither of you is really watching it. This can create a sense of distance and distraction, making it harder to connect and communicate.
With a TV bed, on the other hand, you have more control over when and how you watch TV. Since the TV is integrated into the bed itself, you can raise or lower the screen as needed, and you don’t need a separate remote or stand. This can make it easier to agree on when to watch TV, and when to turn it off and focus on each other instead.
Additionally, since the TV isn’t the main focal point of the room, it can reduce the temptation to always have it on. This can create a more peaceful and intimate environment in your bedroom, which can help you feel closer and more connected to your significant other.
Of course, it’s worth noting that a TV bed isn’t a magic solution to relationship issues. If you’re having trouble connecting with your partner, a TV bed alone won’t fix that. But by creating a more peaceful and functional bedroom environment, a TV bed can help remove some of the distractions and barriers that can get in the way of quality time with your significant other.
Overall, while a TV bed isn’t for everyone, it can be a great option for those who want to declutter their room, create a functional and balanced bedroom, preserve a good view, and connect with their significant other. By integrating the TV into the bed itself, a TV bed can provide all the benefits of a TV without taking up valuable space or dominating the room.
